Idris Hasan is facing extradition to China by the Moroccan Government

In late July 2021, a Uyghur man, Idris Hasan, was arrested and detained by the Moroccan authorities at Casablanca. As a father of three children, Mr. Hasan flew to Morocco from Turkey, a country where he no longer felt safe. The man was therefore trying to seek refuge from the grasps of the Chinese government elsewhere. However, due to Mr. Hasan’s activism, Beijing issued a Red Notice with Interpol.

International Support for Uyghurs organized a closed workshop with notable human rights activists, advocacy organizations, and members of parliament to revitalize and coordinate the campaign to return Huseyin Celil to Canada. The guest speaker of the virtual meeting was Kamila Talendibaeva, the wife of Huseyin Celil, who urged participants to take action and called on Canada to prioritize the release of Celil from Beijing.

Urumqi Massacre 12th Anniversary Protest

On July 4th, 2021, the Uyghur community in Montreal and their allies marched in commemorating the innocent lives lost on the July 5th Urumqi protest and the millions of victims of the ongoing Uyghur genocide being committed by the Chinese government. Sameer Zuberi, member of Parliament for Pierrefonds-Dollard was present at the rally.

No Beijing 2022 Protest - Week 2

Today, Saturday, June 12th, 2021, ISU and their allies joined together in protesting for the relocation of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. The protest involved approximately 40 people and ran from 3-5 PM, with speeches on the ongoing Uyghur genocide as well as the ethical implications of having China host the Olympics.

ISU would like to thank their allies from all communities for standing with us against injustice. We look forward to seeing you all on June 23rd at 14h. Stay tuned for more information about our next protest!

Aujourd’hui, samedi le 12 juin 2021, ISU et ses alliés se sont réunis pour manifester pour le déplacement des Jeux olympiques 2022 de Pékin. Plus de 40 manifestants se sont réunis de 15 h à 17 h. Plusieurs alliés ont pris la parole pour s’exprimer sur le génocide ouïghour en cours, ainsi que sur les implications éthiques reliées à l’accueil des Jeux olympiques par la Chine.

On Saturday, June 5th, 2021, members from the Uyghur, Tibetan, Hong Kong, Muslim Students, Young Turks of Quebec, and the Espoir et coexistence communities joined together in protesting for the relocation of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games. The protest involved more than 100 people and ran from 3-5 PM with representatives from each group speaking on the Uyghur genocide as well as the ethical implications of having China host the Olympics.

Fundraising Gala in Support of Uyghur Refugees in Thailand

On May 8th, International Support for Uyghurs (ISU) held a very successful online fundraising event dedicated to the Uyghur refugees in Thailand. More than 30 people participated in the event, during which Zumret Dawut, a prominent Uyghur activist and a concentration camp survivor shared her tearful experiences and called for the Muslims in the world to support the Uyghur Muslims.

From the Ghulja Massacre to a Genocide

On February 5th, 1997, thousands of Uyghurs and other Turkic people of East Turkistan protested peacefully in the city of Ghulja in response to the restrictions against Uyghur culture and the execution of over 30 human right activists. Chinese authorities violently cracked down on this peaceful demonstration, killing over 100 protesters and arresting over a thousand Uyghurs in the following days.
