Uyghur Genocide Awareness Protest

  • International Support for Uyghurs Montreal, QC, Canada (map)

On Sunday, August 28, 2022, ISU held a rally to call on the Canadian government to act to stop the genocide of Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples by the government of China. Over 100 people attended the rally to show that they stand against China’s genocide of Uyghurs.

ISU and allies brought attention to Sameer Zubeeri’s motion to allow Uyghur refugees in third-party countries the option to safely settle in Canada, away from China’s persecution. We marched from Cabot square to Dorchester via St Catherine Street and handed out info pamphlets to bypassers.

Speeches were made by MP Alexandre Boulerice (NDP) and MP Sameer Zuberi (Liberal Party) Professor Susan Palmer, President of Canada Muslim Forum Samer Majzoub, former Montreal mayoral candidate Wilder Jules showing support for Uyghurs and also calling the government to allow safe asylum for fleeing Uyghur refugees.

We would like to thank all of our allies for attending the protest and publicly speaking in support of Uyghurs.

Please contact your MPs to meet with them and ask them to support MP Sameer Zuberi’s Bill M-62.
