Commemorating the 22nd Anniversary of the Ghulja Massacre
On Feb 5th, 2019, International Support for Uyghurs organized a peaceful demonstration commemorating the 22nd anniversary of Ghulja Massacre. Some Turkish organizations in Montreal supported our protest.
On February 5th, 1997, the Chinese authorities cracked down a peaceful protest, shooting and killing nearly 200 Uyghurs on the streets of Ghulja City in East Turkestan (aka Xinjiang). Following the massacre, thousands of Uyghurs were detained, and many of them were sentenced to death or simply disappeared. For commemorating this incident, International Support for Uyghurs is organizing a demonstration to raise awareness against the CCP’s brutality. This event will also highlight the issue of the infamous concentration camps (called ‘‘re-education camps’’ by the CCP) that have been holding up to three million Uyghurs and other Muslims. While the horrible Coronavirus is spreading fast, their lives are in grave danger.
