Stop Uyghur Genocide – Commemorating the victims of the Urumqi Fire

  • International Support for Uyghurs Montreal, QC, Canada (map)

The totalitarian Chinese Government is using its inhuman zero-Covid policy to intensify its genocide against the Uyghur people in East Turkestan. With the strict zero Covid policy, a statewide lockdown has been implemented. People have been ordered to stay inside their apartments, and authorities bolted, changed, locked, or even welded doors so that nobody could leave their homes.

On the night of the 23rd of November, an out-of-control fire enveloped a high-rise building in Urumqi, where many Uyghurs lived. Not only could fire trucks not reach the building but people were trapped inside their apartments, facing certain death, unable to leave the intense and raging fire, as all fire exits were locked. Consequently, 10 Uyghurs lost their lives, 3 of whom were children, and many more were wounded. But the number can be more than 40, according to many eyewitnesses.

At this critical moment, when the Chinese government is using COVID-19 as a new tool of genocide against Uyghurs, we call on all to join our protest against the Chinese government’s crimes against humanity.
